I'm crossing my fingers that the second episode of Radio 4's new sitcom Clare In The Community will be as funny as the first. It's the sharpest script I've heard for years.

Programme of the week is this new sitcom based on a cartoon strip in The Guardian.
Sally Phillips manages to make this politically correct monstrosity mildly sympathetic by the end- by which time the tone has changed from bitter to wildly funny. All very acidic and highly enjoyable.

A completely engaging narrative, beautifully observed characters and lots of very funny material. A radio sit-com that pleasingly stresses the “com” rather than the “sit”.

The heart sinks at the prospect of a sitcom based on a Guardian strip cartoon about a social worker- but don’t be put off. This is actually very funny. Honestly. Truly.
It’s quick paced with an intelligent script, and this episode has a great, if risky, pay off.
